 What’s New for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee?

The 2019 model year has the Jeep Cherokee deep into its fifth generation (KL) of production. The compact SUV is now split into the Latitude (which replaces the Sport), the Latitude Plus, the Trailhawk®, the Limited, the Trailhawk® Elite, and the Overland. The standard engine is the 2.4-liter MultiAir® inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which produces 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. New on the Cherokee is the 2.0-liter Tigershark turbocharged I4 engine, which produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and can be chosen for every trim but the Latitude. On the Trailhawk® trim and up, the SUV is powered by the 3.2-liter Pentastar® V6, which produces out 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which comes with automatic stop-start technology. Front-wheel drive (4×2) and four-wheel drive (4×4) are available on all Cherokee trims. However, it is the Trailhawk® trim that sticks with the 4×4 system, in addition to a locking rear differential and a 51.2-to-1 rock-crawl ratio. Accompanying the 4×4 system is Selec-Terrain® for optimizing traction management.

A five-seater, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee provides 128 cubic feet of passenger volume, as well as a cargo volume of 24.6 cubic feet, with the option of folding down the rear seats to expand it to 54.9 cubic feet. The airbag system on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee consists of a pair of front impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, a pair of front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and dual side curtain airbags. Other standard safety and security features include all-speed traction control, a rearview camera, electronic stability control, hill start assist, LED daytime running lamps, speed control, electronic roll mitigation, an accident response system, and an anti-theft system. Upgrades include blind-spot and cross-path detection, a security alarm added on the anti-theft system, and hill descent control.
