What’s New for the 2017 Jeep Compass?
The Compass stands out from the crowd with its ingrained Jeep durability paired with its ‘any condition’ reliability. With its fun flip-down speakers in the tailgate (available) and an off-road mode on the 4WD within the Freedom Drive II system (available), the Compass will get you going in the correct direction very soon. Searching for a hatchback, compact SUV that is excellent driving around-town, has superb fuel-economy in the front-wheel-drive style, and is potentially one of the best-priced options among its rivals? The 5-passenger 2017 Jeep Compass fits that description and is ready to drive into your future as soon as possible!
The Jeep Compass shows up to 2017 with a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque. That engine is paired with the front-wheel drive setup. Standard on all trims of the 2017 Compass are a tilt steering wheel, a customized and touring-tuned suspension, and the ‘Speed Control’ mode within the cruise control. The Compass can and will tow up to 2,000 pounds when saddled with the correct equipment. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 172 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque is put on AWD trims as standard. The 2.0-liter in the Latitude is affixed to a continuously variable transmission, and the 5-speed manual transmission (standard) goes with a 2.0-liter on the Sport model (or an automatic 6-speed style transmission). The Sport trim has as an availability for the Freedom Drive II, which has a crawl mode in its accented CVT. In Edmunds testing, an AWD 2017 model went from 0 to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds, with the 2.4-liter engine (6-speed transmission).
There are two models within the Compass lineup (and a few variants on those themes): the Latitude and the Sport. Standard on the Sport is a USB port next to an aux port, a tilt-only steering wheel, Bluetooth phone/audio connectivity, foglights, air-conditioning, 60/40-split rear seatbacks that fold down, cruise control, a four-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Sport trim has two other variants: the Sport SE or the 75th Anniversary Edition. The Sport SE model has a matching gloss-gray body trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel (with audio controls), and heated front seats. The High Altitude Edition gets a sunroof and leather upholstery. The Latitude core model brings in the Sport’s features as standard, then employs 17-inch wheels, cherry-picks from the Power Value Group, and has an available tonneau cover (Package option). The Latitude has a variant called the ‘High Altitude Edition’. A sunroof appears up on top of the 75th Anniversary package, with 4 eighteen-inch bronzed alloy wheels, and a remote engine starter. There’s a garage-door opener, a cargo cover, an informational display, and an alarm in the Security and Cargo Convenience Group. Four-wheel drive Compass models are complemented well by the All-Weather Capability Group, and there is an available Uconnect Wi-Fi internet connection / Wi-Fi hotspot that the dealer could be asked to install. Any Compass can also utilize the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group. Standard in the cabin for technology is the Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth system, which allows a remote USB port for playing or transferring files, SiriusXM Radio (with 1 year trial subscription), and also allows handsfree calling via Address Sync.
This vehicle is in a class of its own, or at least it feels that way when driving the 2017 Jeep Compass! Standard safety features of the 2017 Jeep Compass contain antilock brakes, side curtain airbags and front-seat side airbags, and stability and traction control. With its 3 drivetrain possibilities: the Freedom Drive I 4×4, the 4×2, and the Freedom Drive II 4×4, the 2017 Jeep Compass can overcome the most insane off-road challenges you throw at it and also get you (and your passengers) around the city just fine! Speaking of cities, it’s good to also know that all-wheel-drive versions have both rear and front disc brakes.
