New 2016 Dodge Durango at Bosak Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM for Merrillville, IN
For those looking for a reliable family vehicle with strength, excellent handling and ride comfort, the 2016 three-row crossover SUV Dodge Durango is here. It has a capable V6 engine with established capacity, but if you need even more, a V8 is available. There are over 50 seat configurations when including the optional captain's chairs, there are full option packages on all trims, and there are both 4WD and low-range gearing available for making the tough stuff happen. Additionally, there's a Sport version and all-wheel drive available on all models! For 2016, engine stop-start technology is now standard on models with the V6 engine, for improved fuel efficiency. The V8 engine Durango makes a great case for itself for those times when you just need the strength and dependability of a powerful and capable vehicle. Four all-new exterior colors are available for 2016: Red Pearl, Light Brownstone, Luxury Brown, and Ivory Pearl Tri-coat.
Under the Durango's Hood
Durango's standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine generates 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and can tow 6,200 pounds. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque with a best-in-class tow rating of 7,400 pounds, plus has an active Fuel Saver Technology feature. There is a standard eight-speed automatic transmission that gets 15 percent better fuel economy than the last transmission, with a rotary shifter and steering wheel mounted paddle shifters on all models. The Durango also features an Eco Mode to maximize fuel economy. ESS technology increases fuel efficiency by shutting the engine off when the vehicle stops, while simultaneously not interrupting the cabin's processes. The four-wheel independent suspension, used together with the Durango's close to 50/50 weight distribution, lends to an improved responsiveness. The Durango has a standard rear-wheel-drive-based drivetrain but has available an all-wheel drive (AWD) for both engines.
Design of Dodge Durango
The 2016 Dodge Durango is available in four trim levels: SXT, Limited, Citadel, and R/T. Seven-passenger seating is standard on all, while second-row captain's chairs are optional. The instrument panel features a center stack that houses the 5-inch and available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreens. The instrument cluster has a full-color 7-inch (TFT) screen, an adaptive cruise control with stop, the newest Uconnect Access Via Mobile system, a dual-screen Blu-ray DVD system as well as a Wi-Fi hot spot! A 5-inch touchscreen is standard on SXT models while Limited, R/T and Citadel models (and available on SXT) have the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. On the SXT, standard features include four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability program (ESP), trailer-sway control, automatic headlights, projector fog lamps, and tinted glass. On the inside, the SXT features standard three rows of seats with 60/40 split fold and tumble second row, 50/50 split, a folding third row, premium cloth seats, a fold-flat front passenger seat, and tri-zone automatic temperature control. The Limited trim delivers all the standard features of the SXT and adds LED daytime running lamps, signal repeater mirrors, a 10-way power front passenger seat, a 12-way power driver seat with memory and power four-way lumbar adjustment, ParkSense rear park assist, ParkView rear backup camera, and a vehicle security alarm. The Citadel is the ultimate in Durango luxury. Adding more to the Limited, the Citadel's standard features include: the Uconnect Access voice-command 3D navigation and live streaming internet radio, remote start, 20-inch aluminum wheels, a power sunroof, automatic high-beam HID headlamps, and a power liftgate. That said, the R/T trim is where owners get into heavy lifting with its 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. The R/T model features a unique sport-tuned suspension, a Beats premium audio system, 20-inch performance tires, and heated steering.
The 2016 Durango goes all out in terms of safety and preventative features. It offers more than 60 available safety and security features, including standard all-speed traction control and electronic stability control (ESC), and trailer-sway control, which enhances towing capabilities while keeping the alignment for both vehicle and trailer. Available safety and security features include forward collision warning with crash mitigation, adaptive cruise control with stop, Uconnect Access with emergency call and roadside assistance, Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Path (RCP) detection. In addition, standard front-row active head restraints, full-length three-row side-curtain airbags and front-seat-mounted side thorax airbags offer enhanced occupant protection for a total of 7 airbags. The forward collision warning system with crash mitigation alerts the driver if approaching a vehicle in front too quickly, and the adaptive cruise control with stop will keep Durango at a driver-selected distance from the vehicle in front when cruise control is engaged, and can even bring the SUV to a controlled stop.
